The Kafue National Park hosts one of the largest varieties of animal species in Africa, but is nevertheless underdeveloped in terms of tourism. Despite being one of the oldest, largest and wildest national parks in the world, the park is visited by less than 10,000 tourists per year. We combine extraordinary game viewing in the Kafue National Park with a stay at the Victoria Falls, not to be missed!
Day 1 Lusaka
Pick-up from Lusaka International Airport. Overnight on the outskirts of Lusaka.
Day 2 Hippo Lodge
Transfer to the Kafue National Park with en route visit to the Mumbwa Heritage Sites to gain insight into Zambia’s history. At Hippo Lodge, natural hot springs provide visitors with the perfect opportunity to unwind in a unique natural environment. A Barbeque dinner (braai) at the springs makes for an unforgettable evening.
Day 3 Hippo Lodge
Take in the beauty of the Kafue River to a small idyllic river island. With lions and hyenas calling nearby, this trip is an entirely different bush experience.
Day 4 Lufupa Lodge
The morning is at free disposal at Hippo Lodge. In the afternoon, we embark on a river safari to Lufupa Lodge down the river. We will see hippos, crocodiles and birds – and maybe a herd of elephants bathing! Lufupa Lodge is renowned for its night drives, and it is a thrilling – although rare experience to see leopards hunt.
Day 5 Lufupa Lodge
We set out for the journey to Puku Pan Safari Lodge with a picnic lunch at a scenic place along the river.
Day 6 Puku Pan Safari Lodge
Puku Pan Safari Lodge offers a unique game viewing experience. Choose from a range of activities including game drives (day/night), walking safaris, birding and excellent fishing.
Day 7 Puku Pan Safari Lodge
We set early in the morning for a walking safari to nearby kopjes; huge blackened rock formations that provide breathtaking views of the Kafue National Park – and an unusual setting for a spectacular breakfast! A night drive will bring our attention to some of the more elusive nocturnal animals such as mongoose, civet and bush baby. Maybe we will even see hippos grazing on land.
Day 8 Puku Pan Safari Lodge
The morning is at free disposal at the lodge. In the afternoon we embark on a boat to Pebble Island. Beautiful palm, water berry and sausage trees cast mottled shadows over animals making their way to the river to drink. Keen fishermen can catch their own dinner while we enjoy the sunset.
Day 9 Livingstone
Transfer by air from Puku Pan Safari Lodge to the Victoria Falls and our Livingstone Guest Farm in Livingstone.
Day 10 Livingstone
The Victoria Falls is one of the world’s natural wonders and we explore the falls and the surrounding area. Back at our lodge, we can go for a guided bird walk or bring out the bicycles for a tour of the local villages.
Day 11 Livingstone
Livingstone offers a wide range of adventure activities. Consider an elephant back ride followed by champagne breakfast, a micro light flight over the falls, gorge swing or the world’s best river rafting. Game viewing is another option either at the local Mosi-oa Tunya National Park or across the border in Botswana. All extra activities are at own expense.
Day 12 Lusaka
Transfer by air to Lusaka. If time permits you can explore the city
